Our Clergy

Rev. Ben Stern
Saint Paul writes:
"So a person should consider us as Christ's servants, and stewards of God's mysteries." 1 Cor 4:1
I like the above quote from St. Paul explaining how people should regard him. Paul wants to be a servant of Christ and a steward of God's mysteries. I can think of no better way to identify myself regarding this ministry. I want to follow Jesus and be his servant. At the Last Supper, Jesus demonstrates that a leader must always remain a servant. Moreover, the word "mysteries" calls to mind the Eastern usage of "mysteries" referring to Sacraments. Paul desires to faithfully convey the Sacraments as he received them (1 Cor 11:23).
Like St. Paul, I continue ministry in the tentmaker tradition as a worker-priest. This means that my ministry has both limitations and constraints as well as opportunities and blessings. My full-time employment allows me to fund this ministry and make myself available without prejudice to donations or seeking favor from others. Furthermore, my ministry as a worker-priest allows me to understand the challenges and demands of employment, being an attentive spouse, and parenting. Sadly, these real demands place limits on my availability. Please pray for the Saint Oscar Romero Community Ministry and for me that I may faithfully minister the Gospel.
