Our Sacrmental Celebrations

Saint Oscar Romero community ministry provides sacramental celebrations for people who seek God's grace and strength.  Sacraments are not for the perfect but for imperfect people desiring to become holy.  We invite people of faith and goodwill to celebrate with us.  We all fall short of our call to be saints and so we come to the Lord to seek guidance, strength and Divine assistance.

 Baptism

The Sacrament of Baptism is the first rite of initiation into the Church, which signifies the cleansing from original sin, and conferral of sanctifying grace through the indwelling of the Holy Spirit.

The rite of Baptism is celebrated both for infants as well as adults.  Please see Fr. Ben if you have a baptismal need.  Depending upon your background and circumstances, a catechetical component for baptismal preparation may be required.  It is a joy and privilege to celebrate the mystery of divine life with you.

Confirmation/Chrismation

The Sacrament of Confirmation is the rite by which a bishop (or a duly authorized priest) confers the grace of the Holy Spirit upon the believer through an anointing with oil and the laying on of hands.  In receiving the Spirit, the Christian is strengthened with the gifts they will need to take on an adult role in the Christian community.

If you have not received the Sacrament of Confirmation in a church with apostolic succession, please contact Fr. Ben mentioning a desire to receive the holy mystery.

Eucharist

The Sacrament of the Holy Eucharist is the celebration through which we renew and participate in Christ's birth, death resurrection and ascension into heaven.  During this celebration we receive the true Body and Blood of Christ given to us under the sacramental forms of bread and wine for our spiritual nourishment.

We welcome all baptized believers who are sincerely repentant of their sins and who believe that Christ is present - according to his promise - in the Communion, we receive, to commune at the Lord's Table if they have been admitted to the Eucharist in their own home congregations.

Christians who have not made their First Communion should contact Fr. Ben for arrangements.

Reconciliation

In the Sacrament of Reconciliation, Christ left us a powerful sacramental encounter with his radical love and forgiveness.  This rite is also known as Confession or Penance.  Fr. Ben makes himself available to baptized person seeking God's forgiveness.  As a sinner, Fr. Ben understands human weakness and invites you to experience mercy, love and peace.

Anointing of the Sick

The Sacrament of the Sick consists of the anointing of sick members of the Christian community with oil and prayers for their healing and forgiveness.  The effects of this sacrament are strength and peace for the Christian in the face of his or her illness, physical healing, and recovery (as manifest in ways that accord with God's will.

Please contact Fr. Ben if you or a loved one is sick and would like to receive the sacrament.  In addition, the mystery of the Anointing of the Sick is communally celebrated twice a year at a Sunday liturgy.

Christian Marriage

In the Sacrament of Matrimony, a permanent covenant is formed between a baptized man and a baptized woman.  As a covenant, marriage is intended to be a life-long, permanent commitment embodying obligations that transcend the immediate feelings of wishes of the husband and wife.  By coming to restore the original order of creation disturbed by sin, Christ himself gives the strength and grace to live marriage in the new dimension of the Reign of God.

Couples requesting Christian marriage should contact Fr. Ben regarding making arrangements for marriage preparation.

Holy Orders

The Sacrament of Holy Orders in one through which the Church sets aside individuals for the special service of ministry to the Christian community.  This sacramental act is called ordination.  There are three ranks of major orders in the ministry of the Church which are:
1) Diaconate
2) Presbyterate (priesthood)
3) Episcopate (bishops)

If you feel called to the Sacrament of Holy Orders, please contact Fr. Ben regarding the next steps including prayer, discernment, and an introduction to our presiding bishop.
